Presented here is a very rare porcelain medal of our Lady of The Immaculate Conception, dated 1920 – 1930. It is a hand painted miniature on porcelain, then Kiln fired and inserted in a sterling silver frame.
This is a representation of the patron Lady of The Immaculate Conception.
Origin of the miniature is very probably Portugal, made for the Hungarian market as the writings on the reverse are in Hungarian. It is not sure where the frame was made. It is tested.
The medal is two sided : on the obverse Mary as the Immaculate Conception – and on the reverse :” Sz. Maria Isten Nayja Imadkozz erettunk “- which translated from Hungarian means : ” Saint Mary Mother of God, Pray for us ”
It is to be noted that the representation is inspired by the 17th Century painting of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, a Spanish painter who practically imposed this image on later representations.
The medal is in pristine condition and it is sold WITH the chain in the picture.
The chain is Sterling Silver. The chain is not of the same period but much newer.
It is a very fine and nice item to wear.
Dimensions of the medal are : 25 x 15 mm or 1 x 0.6 in. ( excluding bail)
Weight of the framed medal alone is 2.20 grams. The chain is 2.3 grams and 50 cm long.
This is a rare item, very well made
